QUICK ANSWER
McKenna Boiler Works, Inc. performs steam trap audits for plants across California. McKenna technicians test each trap with ultrasonic and temperature checks, tag and log its location, and report which traps have failed open, failed closed, or are leaking. Failed traps are replaced with traps matched to the application and to the brand the plant already uses, sized and installed by McKenna. McKenna tests and replaces common trap brands, including Armstrong, Spirax Sarco, and TLV. Family-owned since 1921. Call (323) 987-1816 or email info@mckennaboiler.com to schedule a trap audit.
Why traps matter
What a failed trap costs.
A trap that fails open blows live steam into the condensate return, and the boiler makes that steam again. A trap that fails closed backs condensate up into the equipment it drains, which cuts heat transfer and can cause water hammer.
Traps fail quietly, so a plant can lose steam for months before anyone notices. A survey finds them.
What a temperature scan shows
A working trap holds steam back, so its outlet runs much cooler than its inlet. A trap that has failed open passes live steam and runs hot on both sides.
Illustration. Every audit pairs temperature readings with ultrasonic testing before a trap is called failed.
What’s included
What a steam trap audit includes.
- Ultrasonic and temperature testing of each trap
- Every trap tagged and its location logged, so it's easy to find again
- Report of traps failed open, failed closed, or leaking
- Notes on wrong trap types and sizing problems
- Replacement traps sized to the application and matched to your plant’s trap brand
- Replacement and retest by McKenna crews
Every trap tested and logged
Each trap gets a tag number, its location, the trap type, the test result, and what to do next.

How an audit runs
How a trap audit runs.
01
Walk the system
We find every trap on the steam system.
02
Test and tag
Each trap is tested, tagged, and logged.
03
Report
You get a list of every trap, its condition, and what we recommend.
04
Replace
Failed traps replaced to match the application and your trap brand, then retested.
