QUICK ANSWER

McKenna Boiler Works, Inc. designs and builds plant steam boilers for pharmaceutical, biotech, and cleanroom facilities, ships them to plants across the United States and internationally, with startup and commissioning in any state, and installs and services them across California. McKenna boilers supply the plant steam that heats clean steam generators, WFI stills, autoclave jackets, and steam-to-steam humidifiers. McKenna builds them in its ASME code shop in Oceanside, supplies startup reports and test records for validation, and services McKenna boilers and other brands. Pharmaceutical & Cleanrooms

Plant steam behind the clean utilities.

Pharmaceutical and biotech plants use plant steam to heat clean steam generators and WFI stills, heat autoclave jackets and glass washers, and run the steam-to-steam humidifiers that serve cleanrooms. The plant steam system has to hold steady pressure so the clean utilities downstream stay in spec.

The boiler plant supports validated systems, so changes need planning and documentation. We supply the equipment data, test records, and startup reports your validation and facilities teams ask for. For contractor qualification, McKenna is an ISNetworld member, every factory and field employee has completed OSHA 10-Hour training, management has completed OSHA 30-Hour training, and crews work from a written safety handbook.

What matters

What a pharmaceutical and biotech boiler room needs.

Steady pressure

Clean steam generators and autoclaves need plant steam at a steady pressure.

Documentation

Equipment data, test records, and startup reports for validation and change control.

Redundancy

Backup capacity so a boiler repair doesn’t have to stop production.

Water quality

Feedwater and condensate return set up to protect the boilers and downstream equipment. Your water treatment company sets the chemical program, within the limits in the boiler manufacturer’s manual.

Codes and rules

Clean steam and air rules.

Clean steam that contacts product is made by a clean steam generator, not the plant boiler. The plant boiler supplies the heat, so its job is steady, reliable plant steam. McKenna builds and services the boiler plant; your clean utilities vendor and quality team own the clean steam system.

Plant boilers above the air district’s size threshold need their own permit to operate. When a boiler can’t meet its NOx limit, McKenna retrofits an ultra-low NOx burner, supports the permit and source test, and documents the change for your change control.
