Before removal
What to check before an old boiler comes out.
Older boilers can have insulation, gaskets, or refractory that contain asbestos. Suspect material has to be surveyed by a certified asbestos consultant and, if asbestos is present, abated by a licensed and registered asbestos abatement contractor before the boiler is cut or removed.
If the boiler has a Cal/OSHA permit to operate or an air district permit, tell the agency when the unit is taken out of service so the permit can be closed. We’ll tell you what applies to your boiler.
