QUICK ANSWER

McKenna Boiler Works, Inc. designs and builds steam and hot water boilers for hospitals and healthcare facilities, ships them to facilities across the United States and internationally, with startup and commissioning in any state, and installs and services them across California. McKenna builds its boilers in its ASME code shop in Oceanside, engineers central plants with backup capacity, brings in rental boilers to carry the load during replacements, and services McKenna boilers and other brands. Healthcare & Hospitals

Steam and hot water for patient care.

Hospitals run boilers for sterilizers, humidification, kitchens, laundry, domestic hot water, and building heat, every hour of every day. Most central plants are designed with redundancy so one boiler can be down for service while the rest carry the load.

Replacing a boiler in a working hospital means the rest of the plant, or a rental boiler, carries the load. We schedule the work with your facilities team and sequence the tie-in and startup so sterilizers and heat stay on.

What matters

What a hospital and healthcare boiler room needs.

Redundancy

Enough capacity that one boiler can be out for service or repair without losing steam.

Sterilization steam

Steady pressure and dry steam for sterilizers and humidifiers. Your water treatment company sets the water treatment program for steam quality, within the limits in the boiler manufacturer’s manual. McKenna is not a water treatment company.

Replacements planned to keep steam and heat on for the hospital.

Documentation

Inspection, maintenance, and test records kept for the facility and its inspectors.

Codes and rules

Hospital boiler records and air rules.

Hospital boilers are inspected for the Cal/OSHA permit to operate, and accreditation surveys review boiler maintenance and test records. McKenna keeps inspection, maintenance, and test records for each boiler it services and makes code repairs under its National Board R certificate.

Hospital boilers above the air district’s size threshold need a permit, and a standby boiler that runs only during outages can have different limits than the lead boiler. McKenna checks each boiler’s limit, supports permits and source testing, and retrofits ultra-low NOx burners when a boiler can’t meet its limit.
