QUICK ANSWER
McKenna Boiler Works, Inc. provides boiler and boiler room engineering for plants across California. McKenna engineers size boilers and feedwater systems from the plant’s steam or hot water load, lay out the boiler room, design equipment to fit a specific room or footprint, and produce permit drawings stamped by a licensed engineer, plus installation drawings. They also troubleshoot existing plants and correct design problems. McKenna builds to ASME Sections I, IV, and VIII under its S, H, M, and U certificates. Family-owned since 1921. What we engineer
Engineering for the whole boiler room.
- Steam and hot water load calculations
- Boiler, burner, and feedwater sizing
- Boiler room layout, clearances, and rigging path
- Steam, feedwater, condensate, blowdown, and gas piping design
- Stack and breeching layout
- Permit drawings stamped by a licensed engineer, plus installation drawings and submittals
- Specifications for your engineer or contractor

Built to fit
Standard models, or designed for your room.
When a standard model fits, we use it. When the room is tight, the door is small, or the load is unusual, McKenna engineers design the boiler, feedwater system, or vessel to fit the space and the specification.
The drawings and the equipment come from the same company, so they match.

Steam and hot water systems
New plant design and existing plant troubleshooting.
McKenna engineers design new steam and hot water plants from the load up, and troubleshoot existing plants and correct design problems.
New plant design
Load profile, boiler count and turndown, header and piping sizes, feedwater and condensate return, blowdown, and stack, designed as one system.
Existing plant troubleshooting
Water hammer, wet steam, header pressure that sags under load, short cycling, feedwater pump cavitation, and condensate that doesn’t return. We find the design cause and correct it.
How a job runs
How an engineering job runs.
01
Site and load review
We walk the room and work out the steam or hot water load with you.
02
Concept and sizing
We size the equipment and send a layout and recommendation.
03
Drawings
Final drawings and submittals for permits, fabrication, and installation. Permit drawings are stamped by a licensed engineer.
04
Build and install
We build, install, and start up what we designed.

Why McKenna
Why plants use McKenna engineering.
We build it
The same company that designs your boiler room builds the equipment in its own ASME shop.
ASME S, H, M, U
Boilers and vessels designed and built to ASME Sections I, IV, and VIII.
Independent
McKenna isn’t tied to a manufacturer’s rep agreement, so the sizing recommendation fits your plant.
